I was thrilled when a friend told me my film, Virgin Cheerleaders in Chains, was mentioned in the New York Times. (How cool is that?)
Then when I read your piece - excellent, btw - I saw my movie at the bottom with Screambox, a streaming service that specializes in low budget exploitation horror, and my joyous bubble burst. My God, I thought, what has my distributor done?
Virgin Cheerleaders in Chains is not only not exploitative, it makes fun of movies that are. In fact, our worst reviews - and there have been a few - come from people who watched the film clearly expecting what the title suggests: loads of sex and gore.
People who like the movie see it for what it is: a fun romp, tongue in cheek, a movie within a movie, never taking itself too seriously, and clearly not a movie for Screambox. I'll be asking my distributor, Darkside Releasing, about this tomorrow.
I hope you will take time one day to watch Virgin Cheerleaders in Chains. I think you will be pleasantly surprised.
Hi,
For some reason I didn't get an alert you'd posted this comment. I hope your distribution issue has been solved. I see it's also for rent on Amazon so I'll check it out.
Hi,
Yes. Distribution got worked out. Everyone agreed that even though the film is more layered than generic gore, that’s the best way to market it.
Thanks so much for replying. And let me know what you think.
