Interview with Lars Eidinger
I'm on a roll with the great people to interview: After Kate Nash, I met with Lars Eidinger. Definitely not the same vibe and yet kinda — two people who are very good at what they do, and do it in their own idiosyncratic manner. Click here for my story.

NecronomiCon Providence
I had a great, thought-provoking time at NecronomiCon Providence last week, reporting on this festival of the weird for the New York Times. And now you can read about it here. The programming was so rich, I think I could have written three or four articles with very little overlap.
Kinky Boots is now Off Broadway
A production of Kinky Boots that's very faithful to the one that played Broadway is now Off Broadway, and I reviewed it for the New York Times. Curious? Click here.

Lily James
It was really interesting to reconvene with Lily James months after I first talked to her about Pam & Tommy. The show has had quite an impact on the pop-cultural conversation and, as it turns out, on her views on her own career. Click here for the interview.

A lot of science fiction to stream in August
This month's sci-fi column got a little boost! I did the regular installment, which you can find here, and I also contributed to a roundup featuring one selection each from the Times's genre-streaming columnists — focusing on sci-fi, horror, action and foreign movies. I'm going to brag that my pick was the biggest of all!

Tenor Overboard
The Glimmerglass Festival teamed up with Ken Ludwig to create a Rossini jukebox musical. What a brilliant idea! I wrote about how they put it together and gosh, the show sounds so much fun.

Notre Dame de Paris
Arguably the most popular French stage musical after Les Misérables (discuss!) lands in NYC 24 years after it opened in Paris. I wrote a succinct primer about it and the wave of pop musicals that followed in France. Click here for your gateway to epic ballads.

Bodies They Ritual
I really liked Angela Hanks's new play, part of Clubbed Thumb's Summerworks series. It takes place at a Santa Fe resort and introduces a bunch of characters I'd like to know better. Well, maybe not Queen Harvest. Read my Critic's Pick review here.

Arlekin Players
My latest feature in Arts & Leisure is about Arlekin Players, a small company out of Needham, Mass., that took the pandemic as a challenge to think out of the box — and it strived. Now it's presenting its most ambitious project yet, and I wrote about it.

Interview with Manuel Garcia-Rulfo
I worked on two stories when I went to Los Angeles earlier this month. May's streaming science-fiction movies
There's quite a bit of range in this month's selection, though make sure you don't mix Moonfall and Moonshot, or the Swan Song I talk about with the one starring Udo Kier! Click here for my latest column.
Which Way to the Stage
The characters in Ana Nogueira's play, at MCC, are pretty familiar types but the comedy flies for most of the show. But that landing… My review for the Times is here.

Backstage at American Song Contest
I recently spent a few days in Los Angeles working on a couple of stories. The first one just came out and it's about the NBC show American Song Contest. I am not, generally speaking, a fan of singing competitions but I genuinely love this one. Why? Because it's modeled after the Eurovision Song Contest, which of course I love! (And once again I'll be part of the Times' team covering the final on Saturday.) Watching how the sausage is made backstage was a thrill and you can read about it here.
My second (completely different) L.A. story will be out next week. Watch this space.
